Call off

To cancel.

يُلْغِي

The soccer match was called off due to rain.

Call up (1)

To call someone.

يَتَّصِل بِ / يَهَاتِف

I called her up to ask her to go running with me.

Call up (2)

To be summoned.

يَسْتَدْعِي / يَطْلُب الحُضُور

The teacher called me up to the front of the class to demonstrate my science project.

Call for (1)

To ask for help.

يَسْتَغِيث / يَطْلُب المُسَاعَدَة

He could hear the boy who fell out of the boat call for help.

Call for (2)

To be required.

يَتَطَلَّب / يَحْتَاج

This recipe calls for brown sugar.

Call back (1)

To return a call.

يُعَاوِد الاِتِّصَال / يَرُدُّ عَلَى المَكَالَمَة

She told me she was busy and would call back later.

Call back (2)

To be considered for a job (second interview).

يَسْتَدْعِي لِمُقَابَلَة ثَانِيَة

They must have liked what I said in my interview, because the company called me back for a second interview.

Call out (1)

To talk loudly in order to get someone's attention.

ينَادي/ يَصِيح

The hostess at the restaurant called out to us that our table was ready.

Call out (2)

To be criticized for your actions.

عُوتِب

He was called out for behaving rudely.
