Shake down (1)

To get money from someone in an unethical way.

يَبْتَزُّ

I was forced to allow my sister to shake me down, otherwise she would have told my parents that I sneak out of the house at night.

Shake down (2)

To search someone or a place, often by the police.

يُفَتِّشُ

The policeman shook down the school lockers looking for marijuana.

Shake up (1)

To be upset or shocked by something or someone.

تَعَرَّضَ لِصَدْمَةٍ

She was very shook up when she heard the news that her grandfather died.

Shake up (2)

To move something or someone up and down quickly.

خضَّ/ رَجَّ

My mom scolded us for shaking up the cans of soda so we could spray them on each other when we opened them.

Shake out

To move something to remove dirt, dust, or wrinkles.

نفَضَ/ يَنفُض

shake out clothes
يَنْفُضُ المَلابِس لِإِزَالَةِ الغُبَار.

When I remove clothing from the dryer, I always shake them out before folding or hanging them.

Shake off (1)

To deliberately lose someone who is following you.

تخلَّص، تفلَّت منه

My sister was walking behind me for 1 kilometer, but I finally managed to shake her off.

Shake off (2)

To rid yourself of bad feelings or negative influences.
