"to keep someone in the dark" means to not tell someone something
يعني أنك لا تريد إخبار شخص ما حول شيئ ما
- She didn't want to worry her parents, so she kept them in the dark about her purse getting stolen at the mall.
"pulling (someone's) leg" means to persuade someone to believe a lie in order to make a joke
عندما يمزح معك شخص ما و يخبرك شيئ ما غير صحيح ليجعلك تصدقه. ضحك عليك
- Do you really think you were abducted by aliens, or are you just pulling my leg?
"can't do (something) to save my life" means that someone is absolutely sure they aren't capable of a certain skill
عندما شخص يقول هذا التعبير فهو يعني أنه غير ماهر في القيام بشيئ ما، مثلا أنا لا أستطيع الطبخ،فهستعمل المصطلح ده للتعبير عن عدم قدرتي بالطبخ. I can't cook to save my life
- I tried learning how to surf but I couldn't catch a wave to save my life.
"days are numbered" means that someone or something has a limited amount of time
أيامه معدودة
- He has shown up late at work 10 times this month so I'd say his days are numbered at this company.
"give someone a run for their money" means to provide challenging competition for someone or something
عندما شخص ما يكون جيد بقدرك فهو ينافسك،كأن تقول هدا الشخص كان منافس حقيقي .غالبا تستعمل في الرياضة و المسابقات
- Our team came in first place, but last year's winner really gave us a run for our money.
