"sounds like a broken record" means that someone repeats the same thing again and again
شخص يكرر نفس الكلام مرارا و تكرارا
- She sounds like a broken record, always complaining about her coworkers.
"go the extra mile" means to do more than what is required or needed
عندما شخص يقوم بشيئ يفوق توقعاتك ،يقدم لك أكثر من ما أردت أو طلبت
- She is so helpful and always goes the extra mile, by not only stocking my refrigerator with my favorite food, but also cooking for me when I don't have time to do it myself.
"on the blink" means that something is broken
هدا المصطلح يستعمل عندما تتعطل آلة لديك كالتلفاز أو أي شيئ، تلفازي معطل،هاتفي معطل إلخ
- My washing machine is on the blink, so I have to wash my clothes at the laundromat.
"go dutch" means for everyone to pay for themselves
هدا التعبير يعني : كل يدفع حسابو لوحدو : في المطعم تقول لصديقك, اليوم ليس على حسابي كل واحد يدفع لوحدوا.
- When I meet my cousins for lunch, we go dutch.
"turn your nose up at" means for someone to think that something or someone is not good enough for them
يستعمل هدا التعبير : عندما شخص يرفض شيئ ما بدعوى أنه غير كافي بالنسبة له.
- I suggested to my friend that it would be better for her financial situation to buy a used car, and she turned her nose up at the idea.
