"the writing is on the wall" means that it's obvious something will end badly based on previous observations
هدا التعبير يعني أن شيئ ما سيئ سيحصل بناأ على معطيات تحدث أو حدثت، مثال، واضح إنها مش هتكمل معاه، لإنو دايما بيدخل البيت سكران. فواضح  هي التعبير الدي نتحدث عنه.
  • She cheated on her first 3 husbands so the writing is on the wall that she won't be faithful to her new husband.

"go to (someone's) head" means to become overly confident and conceited about yourself due to some type of success   يصيبه بالغرور

  • Getting the promotion at work really went to her head because she no longer will eat lunch with the secretaries in the office.

"speak of the devil" means that you are talking about someone and they suddenly call or appear
 عندما تكون تتحدث حول شخص ما،فجأة يظهر أمامك، فأنت تقول ذلك التعبير
  • I was telling my sister about  my friend's recent wedding and speak of the devil, she unexpectedly appeared at my front door.

"not by a long shot" means for someone or something to not have a good chance of succeeding
نستعمل هدا التعبير عندما تكون فرص شخص ما بالفوز أو الحصول على شيئ ما ضئيلة. إحتمال حدوته يكاد يكون منعدم
  • The team did so poorly this year, they won't qualify for the African Nation's Cup, not by a long shot.

"give (someone) a taste of their own medicine" means to treat someone in the same bad way in which they treated you.
 تعامل شخص ما بنفس الطريقة السيئة التي عاملك بها
  • My roommate wouldn't give me a ride to work when my car wouldn't start, so I will give him a taste of his own medicine if he needs a ride in the future.
