"break the ice" means to be the first to speak or interact with someone you don't know
 يستعمل هدا التعبير عندما شخص ما يبدأ الحديث مع شخص لا يعرفه، يأخد المبادرة في الحديث.
  • On my first day living in my new house, a neighbor broke the ice by knocking on my door and welcoming me to the neighborhood.

"the last straw" means that circumstances don't allow you to continue any further with someone or something
 القشة التي قصمت ظهر البعير، لحد هنا و بس، لن أتحمل أكثر من هذا
  • I tolerated the kids getting mud on the furniture, but when they threw food at each other inside the house, that was the last straw.

"play with fire" means to act in a manner that's reckless or to associate with someone who's not good for you
  يلعب بالنار
  • I knew I was playing with fire getting involved with a girl from a bad family but I did it anyway.

"take a rain check" means to accept an offer at a later date
 هذا التعبير يستعمل عندما يدعوك شخص ما لشيئ ما فتقول : خليها لمرة ثانية، لنأجلها لمرة أخرى، لنقم بها مرة أخرة
  • My uncle asked me to have coffee with him and I had other plans so I told him I would take a rain check.

"go cold turkey" means to abruptly and completely stop doing something
 يستعمل هذا التعبير غالبا مع الإدمان،مثلا شخص مدمن على التدخين،فجأة يقلع بدون تدرج أو حتى تقليل من التدخين. إدا المصطلح يعني التوقف عن عادة ما فجأة.
  • I feel it's more effective to go cold turkey when you want to break a bad habit rather trying to lessen the habit gradually.
