Take up (1)

To start something new.

يَشْرَع في / يَبْدَأ (هوَايَةً جَدِيدَةً)

To make clothing or other fabric shorter.

يُقَصِّر (مَلَابِس)

The dress is too long and needs to be taken up 5 cm.

To move something from a lower place to a higher place.

To remove something, especially clothes.

يَخْلَع

She took off her coat and hung it in the closet.

To not go to work, school, or a type of activity.

I injured my foot so I took 1 week off from soccer practice.

Take on

To accept a job or responsibility.

يَتَوَلَّى / يَقْبَل (مَهَمَّةً أَو مَسْؤُولِيَّةً)

She took on the volunteer job because she likes helping people.
