Get across
1. To make your point of view understood.
يُوَصِّل فِكْرَة / يُفْهِم
I failed at getting my point across in the meeting today.
2. To move from one place to another.
يَعْبُر / يَتَجَاوَز
It was difficult to get across the stream without getting wet.
Get back
1. To reestablish a habit.
يَعُود إلى / يَسْتَأْنِف
I need to get back to running 4 days per week.
2. To return to something.
يَعُود / يَرْجِع
He woke up at 3AM and had trouble getting back to sleep.
3. To step away from something dangerous.
يَتَراجَع
The fireman told me to get back from the burning building.
4. To reply to someone.
يَرُدُّ
I called him and left a message to get back to me as soon as possible.
5. To be given something you have lent.
يَسْتَرِدُّ / يَسْتَعِيد
I gave up on getting my mp3 player back from my uncle.
Get ahead
1. To progress in life.
يَتَقَدَّم / يَنْجَح
In this economy, it is difficult for families to get ahead.
2. To get in front of someone or something.
يَتَقَدَّم عَلى / يَسْبِق
I have been trying to get ahead of the diesel truck for 10 km.
Get away
1. To leave a dangerous area.
يبتَعد
My father told me to get away when he was trimming the tree in our yard.
2. Someone does something bad and is not caught or punished.
يَفْلِتُ مِن العِقاب / يَنْجُو
He lied about the money he took and got away with it.
3. To have a change of scenery or go on a vacation.
يَخْرُج في إجَازَة
I feel I need to get away for a couple of weeks.
4. To do the minimum in a task without affecting quality.
يحصل على نفس النتيجة بأقل جهد
I think we can get away with not sanding the woodwork before we paint it.
Get on
1. Used to ask how well somebody is doing in a particular situation.
تستعمل للسؤال عن حال شخص ما
I asked the children how they are getting on at their new school.
2. To board or enter a mode of transportation.
يَصْعَد إلى / يَرْكَب
All passengers must get on the bus by 10AM for the tour.
3. To dress.
يُلْبِس
It was difficult to get the diaper on the baby because he kept wiggling.
Get off
1. To exit a mode of transportation.
يَنْزِل مِن / يَتَرَجَّل
We couldn't get off the plane for over an hour.
2. To leave a place.
يُغادِر / يَنْطَلِق
We need to get off early tomorrow morning.
3. To get permission not to go to work.
يَحْصَل على إجَازَة
I will try to get off the entire day from work.
Get through
1. To make someone understand something.
يُوَصِّل المَعْنَى / يُفْهِم
It took a long time, but I finally got through to my parents.
2. To complete something.
يُتِمّ / يَنْهِي
I got through the exam quickly.
3. To survive a situation.
يَتَجَاوَز
My friends helped me get through a bad time of my life.
