"left high and dry" means to be in a difficult situation without any help
 تترك شخص ما بدون مساعدة في وضع صعب
  • My friend assured me he would tutor me in French, but he left me high and dry and now I don't think I will pass my proficiency test.

"fight tooth and nail" means for someone to try very hard to get something they want
 يستعمل هذا التعبير حينما شخص :  يبدل قصارى جهده للحصول على شيئ ما -  بكل ما أوتي من قوة  -  يبذل ما بوسعه
  • I had to fight tooth and nail to be promoted to the day shift at the factory.

"bring home the bacon" means for someone to earn money
يكسب المال ( ليعيل أسرته)
  • I'd love to take a vacation with you, but it's not a good time for me, because I have to concentrate on bringing home the bacon.

"get a grip on yourself" means for someone to not get overly emotional about something
 حينما شخص يظهر شعور ما كالغضب أو أي  شعور :  فتقول له -  تحكم بنفسك -  تمالك روحك
  • He was enraged that someone scratched his new car when he was in the store shopping and I told him to get a grip on himself because it's just a car and the damage can be repaired.

"put our heads together" means for 2 or more people to share their ideas with each other in order to find a solution for something
تستعمل بين شخصين أو أكثر :  لنتناقش حول الأمر
  • Let's put our heads together so we can decide the best way to promote our business.

"bide your time" means for someone to wait patiently for a good opportunity to do something
 إنتظر الفرصة السانحة ، تحين فرصته ، ينتظر الفرصة المناسبة
  • She bided her time taking on extra responsibilities at her job for 3 months before she asked for a pay raise.
